My Approach

Therapy with me is a journey that begins with kindness and respect. It is a chance to tell your story and show me the path you have walked thus far. Together we acknowledge the obstacles you face, set goals for where you want to go, and use your strengths and newly learned skills to forge a path forward. We will celebrate small victories, because small steps lead to big changes, and learn to cope mindfully with the setbacks. We will challenge you to consider things from a new perspective and try solutions you may not have tried before. Making changes in one’s life is not always easy and sometimes even though we know changes are needed, we may not be truly ready to act. In our work together we can address where you are in the change process and find ways to move you closer to action.

My theoretical approach in therapy can be best described as Trans-theoretical. This approach emphasizes the importance of meeting you where you are, understanding your place in the change process, and matching the solutions we choose to your unique concerns, way of relating to the world, and goals. This gives me the flexibility to offer a wide variety of interventions. Having said this, my intervention style is also grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which focuses on the interconnection of a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior as the means for positive change. Finding a tailored approach to treatment that works for you maximizes your ability to make meaningful progress towards your therapy goals.

My Experience

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist. I graduated from UNC- Chapel Hill with a BA in Psychology and earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My professional trek has enabled me to work in a variety of settings including group homes for individuals with high functioning Autism, a diagnostic assessment center, community mental health centers, the public school system, and private group practice. In these settings, I have had the opportunity to work with children, families, adults, older adults, and groups for children. I have considerable experience treating adults with depression, anxiety, and trauma. The groups I worked with included a parent/child group for young children struggling with managing anger, and pre-teens needing help with social skills. Over the years, I have worked with the Department of Juvenile services, the Department of Social services and various school systems to conduct psychological evaluations for children and adults that were involved with these agencies. I participated in training for Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with children and have extensive experience working with children that have a history of abuse and/or neglect.
